What is Diprosone cream and ointment?

Diprosone cream and Diprosone ointment contain an active ingredient called betamethasone dipropionate. Betamethasone dipropionate is what is known as a topical corticosteroid, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that helps to reduce the swelling, redness pain and itchiness that is experienced in skin conditions such as contact dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.

How to use Diprosone cream and ointment

Diprosone cream or ointment should, to begin with, be applied to the skin which is to be treated once or twice daily. When you begin to see an improvement in your skin condition you should apply the cream or ointment less frequently or as directed by your doctor.

Who can use Diprosone Cream?

Diprosone cream and ointment is suitable for use by adults and the elderly but should be used with caution in children.

You should not use Diprosone cream or Diprosone ointment if you are allergic to either betamethasone dipropionate or to any of the other ingredients in the medications.

You should not use Diprosone cream or ointment for impetigo, thrush, ringworm or for athlete’s foot. Diprosone cream or ointment should not be used for shingles, chickenpox, cold sores or for herpes.

Diprosone cream or ointment should also not be used for acne, rosacea or for nappy rash.

Diprosone cream and ointment may make worsen psoriasis.

Diprosone cream or ointment should not be used during pregnancy unless considered essential by your doctor.

What are the side effects of Diprosone Cream?

In some cases Diprosone cream and ointment may cause a skin condition to get worse or become swollen. If this happens you should stop using diprosone cream or ointment immediately and contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Diprosone cream and ointment may cause you to have an itching, redness or burning sensation at the site of application.

Using Diprosone cream or ointment over a long period of time may cause stretch marks, thinning of the skin, changes in skin colour, increased hair growth and make veins under the skin become more visible.
