Minocin modified release is an acne treatment. It contains minocycline hydrochloride, which is a medication called a tetracycline antibiotic. Minocycline is available as a capsule.
Acne is a skin condition that is caused by skin pores becoming clogged. This clogging of the pores causes blackheads, whiteheads, pinheads and pimples to develop. These spots can then become inflamed due to bacterial infection. Usually, acne affects the neck, chest, face, back, shoulders and upper arms. It usually starts during puberty but can continue into adulthood. Some twenty per cent of adults suffer from acne worldwide but this rarely continues beyond the age of twenty-five.
Minocin MR works by stopping the bacteria, which cause acne from growing and proliferating. This weakens the bacteria and allows the body’s own immune system to kick in and destroy them.
If you are suffering with acne you are advised to take one capsule (100mg) of Minocin MR once a day with water. You should continue taking the capsules for six weeks, at which point an assessment should be carried out to see if you need to continue with the treatment.
All prescription medications have the potential to cause side effects. Side effects are rare with Minocin MR but the most common is dizziness.
Minocin MR should be used with caution if you suffer with any kidney or liver disorders and should be avoided by women who are pregnant or lactating. It should also be avoided by people with renal failure or hereditary blood disorders.
