How does Norethisterone work?

The onset of a woman’s menstrual cycle causes dramatic changes in the levels of hormones in her body. Norethisterone changes the balance of these levels and in so doing delays the onset of a woman’s period.

Even though Norethisterone prevents the onset of a woman’s period, it is not a contraceptive pill and should not be used as such. Norethisterone will not prevent preganancy.

If you are using a contraceptive pill then Norethisterone should not be taken.

 Menstrual Postponement

For various reasons, there many be times in a woman’s life may be beneficial or convenient to postpone the onset of her period. Perhaps she is going through a particularly busy or important time in her life, is away on holiday or there is another reason, which would make having a period difficult.

For these moments a woman may wish to consider postponing her period.

How do I take Norethisterone 5mg

You should start taking Norethisterone three days before the due date of your period. You should then continues to take Norethisterone at the same dosage, everyday, until the point at which you which your period to commence. The maximum number of Norethisterone tablets that can be prescribed at one time is sixty. Sixty tablets will postpone your period for seventeen days

How long can I use Norethisterone for?

It is only intended that Norethisterone be taken occasionally. Norethisterone should not be taken more than once in every four-month period. It you wish to have a more frequent treatment or you want to delay your period for more than seventeen days then we advise you to speak to your doctor.

Your period will normally begin two to three days after you stop taking Norethisterone, though sometimes it may take a little longer.

Does Norethisterone have any side effects?

All prescription medications can potentially cause side effects. The side effects of Norethisterone are normally insignificant. The most common side effects include tender breasts, bloating, a loss of libido and stomach pains.
