EMLA cream is a local anaesthetic that is used to carry out minor procedures, such as minor surgeries and incisions, and also as a treatment for premature ejaculation. EMLA cream contains 2.5% prilocaine and 2.5% lidocain, both of which are powerful local anesthetics.
EMLA cream numbs the area to which it is applied. It prevents signals of pain from the area of application reaching the brain, allowing minor surgeries to be carried out, with minimal pain and discomfort.
As EMLA cream is a powerful local anaesthetic it is also used to treat men who are suffering with premature ejaculation.
To use EMLA cream as a treatment for premature ejaculation you need to apply the cream to the head of the penis and to leave it for around fifteen to twenty minutes before having penetrative sex. The cream will reduce the sensation in the head of your penis and thus allow you to increase the time you spend having penetrative sex before you climax.
After you have applied EMLA cream it is important that you wash off the cream from your penis and from your hands, as any remaining cream can cause your partner to become numb, when you are having sex with them, and reduce sensation and their feelings of pleasure. EMLA cream also contains oil, which can weaken condoms and cause them to break, so it is vital you remove all traces of cream before you have sex.
It is rare to suffer any side effects from EMLA cream and it is generally regarded as very safe. Severe reactions, however, have been reported and these include rash, shortness of breath, swelling of the face, tongue and lips and low blood pressure. Other possible side effects include, itching, rash, inflammation or paleness at the place of application.
EMLA cream is not suitable for everyone and you should not use if it you have had an allergic reaction to any of its ingredients.
